Mif2Go, for initial Version 4 install.

Includes the HTML Help version of the Mif2Go User’s Guide.

Initial installation instructions

If this is not your first install of Mif2Go 4.0, go directly to the instructions in the next section; do not use these instructions! Even if you have only installed the 4.x demo before, treat this install as an update, not an initial install.

  1. If this is your first install, create a new "home folder" for Omni Systems software products. If you already have DITA2Go, use the same home folder for Mif2Go.
Note: Make sure the path to the folder does not contain spaces! Example: "C:\omsys". Do not install under Program Files!
  2. Download m2g_full_55.zip to your Omni Systems home folder.
  3. Extract all files from m2g_full_55.zip, allowing the process to create subfolders.
Note: If the zip utility puts the extracted files in a directory named after the zip, move them up one level so they are directly under the home folder; for example, C:\omsys\common, not C:\omsys\m2g_full_55\common.
  4. Double-click m2g\usersguide\ugmif2go.chm to open the Mif2Go User's Guide.
Note: If you can see the contents pane, but the topic pane remains empty, the cure is simple. In Explorer, right-click on the CHM, select Properties, and click on the Unblock button at the bottom; it turns gray, then click Apply, then OK. After that, if you double-click the CHM, it opens fine. If you right-click on Properties again, the whole bottom part where the Unblock button was is blank.
  5. Follow the rest of the installation instructions in par. 1.3, "What you need to do". When you install the plugin, be sure to put the DLLs in Frame's fminit\Plugins directory, not in frame\plugins.
  6. If you have a previous version of Mif2Go, before 4.0, be sure to remove all the old DLLs and EXEs from \windows\system32, syswow64, or anywhere else they may be, as explained in par. 1.3.4.
  7. If you have not already installed the ICU401 DLLs, do so now to avoid a "DLL not found" error.
    1. Download the libraries from icu401.zip Do not use any other version.
    2. Unzip into your %omsyshome%\common\bin.
  8. (For Frame 12 support download and install the beta m2rbook115.zip after completing the normal install.)

Mif2Go for update install on a system that already has Mif2Go Version 4.0 installed.

Includes the HTML Help version of the Mif2Go User’s Guide.

Update installation instructions

If this is your first install of Mif2Go Version 4.0, use the instructions in the section above for initial install even if you have a pre-4.0 version of Mif2Go; do not use these instructions! But if you have already installed the 4.x demo version, just update that install; don't do another initial install.

  1. Download m2g_update_55.zip to your existing Omni Systems home folder. Do not create a new one.
  2. Extract all files from m2g_update_55.zip, allowing the process to overwrite files, to merge content into existing folders, and to create subfolders.
Note: If the zip utility puts the extracted files in a directory named after the zip, move them up one level so they are directly under the home folder; for example, C:\omsys\common, not C:\omsys\m2g_update_55\common.
  4. Follow the rest of the update instructions in par. 1.4, "How to update Mif2Go". When you install the plugin, be sure to put the DLLs in Frame's fminit\Plugins directory, not in frame\plugins.
  5. If you have not already installed the ICU401 DLLs, do so now to avoid a "DLL not found" error.
    1. Download the libraries from icu401.zip Do not use any other version.
    2. Unzip into your %omsyshome%\common\bin.
  6. (For Frame 12 support download and install the beta m2rbook115.zip after completing the normal install.)

Additional Components

The following components are not required for most Mif2Go use, but may be needed for specific purposes. The ICU DLLs are needed when producing HTML Help in Asian (CJK) languages from Unicode source, for Frame 8 and up. The dtd2ini utility is GPL, so must be distributed separately; it is needed for producing DITA output for content models other than those included in the DITA 1.0 and 1.1 specs, such as specializations.

Beta Components

Make sure you have current versions of the following beta Mif2Go components, released since the last full upgrade. They contain the latest additions and corrections made by Omni Systems, but have not been as thoroughly tested as those in the full upgrades. Use them at your own risk, and be sure to retain your previous copy so that you can reinstall it if necessary.

Numbers in these .zip archive names are the build numbers for the current release, and the suffix is the beta ID. Install as described in the Mif2Go User's Guide. If there is no suffix, the "beta" is actually a released version for another product, such as DITA2Go.

Note: If the size is 0k, there is no beta yet for that component.
